The mid-century modern look is a fantastic style it’s quite difficult to do it right especially if you are upgrading from a modern sleek style, but if you are a DIY kind of person or you love flipping furniture and working with milk paint fusion mineral paint and chalk paint. It would be an amazing challenge after all if something is worth doing make sure it’s done right.

I had some pieces of some old furniture that I had inherited from my parents when I was moving out back in the day. In an effort to make them regain mid-century look with some modern sleek I decided to repaint it.

The prep work

To get the pieces of furniture ready to paint I removed the original hardware cleaned it with some simple green cleaning essentials and the areas that I was going to repaint I did some light sanding with a 220 grit sandpaper.

Painting

My goal was to transform and change their look into a super smooth finish and hence I did not want the brush strokes to appear on top of the paint, so I choose to go with a microfiber roller and latter lay off the paint with an angled synthetic brush. I usually use this technique since when applying the paint with a roller leaves behind too much texture when I would rather prefer a super smooth look.

When all the painting is done I freshened up the wood by applying some hemp oil that conceal any scratches and also brightens up the finish.

My final step is to apply 3 coats of fusion tough coat on all painted areas. The fusion tough coat is essential when you don’t want that yellow look to appear over your white paint, it makes everything look clean and bright.
