Do you intend to paint some of your old pieces of furniture? This could be an overwhelming task especially if you have no idea of what you need to do and with all the different painting articles online from “self-proclaimed professionals”, it can be a really confusing task. After years of making reckless mistakes, I came up with my own tips to guide me while am painting any piece of furniture which have proven to be really effective.

These tips include;

  • Start by sanding.

I know that you might have come across several articles that suggest you do not need to sand which I intend to completely differ with, since over the years it has proven to be quite important, even though most paints are promising that no sanding is required. When sanding ensure that you do not gouge the surface since you are only required to rough it up just a little so as to provide the paint with something to adhere to.

  • Remove any residue.

After sanding you should wipe the surface with a cloth to remove any residues on the surface.

  • Prime It.

If you intend to laminate your furniture you should apply a primer with a foam brush so as to get in all the hard to reach places.

  • Paint It.

Finally, it’s time to paint, apply the paint with a foam roller in three thin coats, and each allow six to seven hours between each coat.

  • Protect It.

After applying the paint you should then add a coat of a protective finish to protect it, and after applying ensure no bubbles are left on the wall.
