When it’s time to buy a new mattress, don’t get swayed by the terms like “ultra-plush” or “super soft” and even “firm”. Make sure to test the mattress, which must be the one to give you utmost satisfaction while you lie down on it or sleep at night. Test it for sleeping on the back and on both sides. It should support your spine with its firmness and, at the same time, be soft enough to give you the most peaceful sleep.

  1. Choose the firmest mattress which is still comfortable. Your spine needs firmness, but your tired body needs to rest or something soft by the end of the day. Spine support is essential but it should also carry its natural curve.
  2. Dual mattresses are better as they can be adjusted on each side and customized with each partner’s needs.
  3. Get a pillow from home and use it to check your head and neck position while you lie on the mattress. Make sure it meets the curve of your lower back. If you are lying on the side, make sure your shoulder and hip do not take too much pressure or sink in too far. This would bring your spine to an uncomfortable position and shape.
  4. Try to roll on to another position and note whether it’s easy or takes a lot of your effort.
  5. After lying on the bed for fifteen minutes, the mattress would be too firm if you feel pain on your heaviest points. If you feel numb, means it is too soft.
  6. Also, look at the sizes for your mobility on the bed. A queen size has been the most preferred one.
