4 Things To Consider While Setting Up A Baby’s Room

One of the best things to keep in mind while creating a child’s bedroom is making sure your child’s room is timeless. The last thing that you want to do when designing a nursery for your child is make sure the room is secure. For a clean baby’s bedroom, always make sure that your mattress covers are changed at all times. [Sources: 6, 8]

As part of the bedding style, always make sure to utilize some coordinated patterns and prints which create more room for the baby’s room. You will have to buy some more basics for making the baby’s room more comfortable, functional, and secure. [Sources: 6, 7]

Your little one will need somewhere to stay while you fold laundry, do cleaning, or whatever. For the first 6 months, you can provide the baby with the necessities by creating space in his room: Use a bassinet or crib side-by-side, dedicate a portion of the wardrobe or dresser to his clothes and nappy, and have him change in the mat on the floor or on his bed. Setting up your baby’s room may feel overwhelming at first, but really, all your baby needs from his crib is a place to sleep, a place to feed, a place to be changed, and somewhere to keep his clothes and other belongings. While you can put your baby in a cradle to make things easier on yourself, this does not give them a lot to explore, especially during the early weeks. [Sources: 4, 8]

After all, a nursery is the first baby’s room, the baby will spend most of his or her time sleeping, and you will spend plenty of time feeding and cuddling with your precious bundle. In modern society, parents are likely to, and mothers are more likely to, spend more time in the nursery caring for their children. One final, but certainly not the least, thing that you do not want to forget about when planning your nursery decor project is the safety of your newly born child. It is important to remember that the unique needs of babies and children mean safety is of the utmost importance, meaning that you will want to consider babyproofing as you design and construct a child’s room or nursery. Just like you want to make sure that your baby is safe in a car, or in your home, you want to ensure you are providing that same level of security in a baby’s bedroom because creating a safe sleeping environment lowers your baby’s risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). You will also want to be mindful of what your baby is wearing to sleep, and avoid having any sort of blankets in your crib (for safety reasons–more on that below). Do not place blankets, pillows, filling animals, crib bumpers, decorations, or anything other than the fitted sheets in your baby’s crib. While you will want to make your room look great when the baby arrives, make sure the design is flexible enough that it can easily adapt through toddlerhood. [Sources: 0, 3, 5]
