When faced with an empty room, arranging the furniture in a practical and pleasing way can be an overwhelming task, however, over the years interior designers have developed easy to apply principles that anyone can use.

These principals include;

  • Choose a Focal Point.

The power of a focal point has been underestimated for a quite long time. There are rare cases in which a focal point appears naturally it could either be a built-in fireplace or a large window but in an instance where there is no natural focal point, it’s always up to you to create a focal point. It could be a television set where you will then arrange your furniture in a way it surrounds the focal point.

  • Don’t put your Furniture too close to the wall.

In most cases, the size of a room is likely to determine how close the furniture will be to the wall, but it’s always advisable to leave some small breathing space between the wall and the furniture, but in case you have a large room it’s good to leave a few feet between the wall and the furniture and focus arranging the furniture in the middle of the room.

  • Use the right size artwork.

Anything that you plan to hang on your wall whether it’s a mirror, a piece of art, or any sculptural object should be placed strategically from the furniture don’t just hang a small piece of art at the back of your sofa instead hang a large piece of art that is around two-thirds the length of the sofa.
